Soul Mountain Summer 2010

Best greetings to Soul Mountaineers and friends of Soul Mountain. I’m sitting on the screened porch, watching clouds, their shadows on the green trees across the pond, and the carpenter bees which infest the deck railing. I hear birds and a receding jet.

I have derived great pleasure from watching the rising stars of so many Soul Mountaineers. Books, readings, panels at AWP and other conferences, babies, weddings…

Carleasa Coates was my surrogate host in April, sharing the house for two weeks with guests Olga Dugan, Vernita Hall, Karen Hendrix-Cook, and Sherry Morrow. In July our Cave Canem guests will be Juliet Howard, Jadi Keambirioro, Kate Rushin, and Devorah Major.  In August the Acentos Foundation will send six Hispanic poets (I don’t yet know their names) here for an extended weekend. In September I will close the house. Soul Mountain will not have a fall 2010 season or a spring 2011 season.
